07:14 pm - ...ok, now where was I?... hah. buried in work. On the bright side I have 6 more months of forced labor before I end my 4-year indenture contract thingy.
ie. I'm looking for a job! A real job! With, you know, responsibility and nifty stuff like that.
oh, and I bought an xbox. This is not helping me find a job, but boy does it help me slay time like a superheroine!
I do have an interview, though. And I'm up to...hmmm... 589 babies. Go me!

12:55 pm - portishead Ok, portishead has suddenly become even cooler to me. I read the Book of Jude last night and it hit me that I'd heard part of it before. ah ha! "...wandering stars, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever" the song takes on a whole new meaning.
happy valentine's! I got the orcs chocolate battle axes from our local candy shop. The confectioner had never quite had customers like us before. My living room has never had such a food fight either. Poor carpet. At least cats are not allergic to choclate, because Lord Squeak and Mari sure seemed to enjoy the spoils of war. 10:36 pm - suck at the red Orc translation, for those who are following: Brg Glrg Boo.
The orcs are roosting in the attic now, tucked away for their long winter naps. They're saving up all their energy for the rest of the UNC basketball season. Go heels.
Meanwhile, I am on oncology working my exciting 13 hour days. The highlight of the week was the giant tumor (it's not a tumor banter commences) we took out today. It was very satisfying, especially since it wasn't cancer! The orcs promtly stole it to use for their basketball. That has got to violate at least 50 health and safety laws, not to mention patient confidentiality and just plain decency. Fine- you try taking it away from them! It's like I'm talking to 10 foot tall toddlers with their security blankies. Sigh. Heaven forbid they discover the stem cell reseach room...
My attending's most frequent words:
"Suck at the red." "Cut. Faster. Today, please."
My fellow's most frequent words:
"Take that suction from him and help me." "That was the best _____ (insert type of surgery) ever!"
My most frequent word:
"Sorry!" Current Location: work Current Mood: listless Current Music: peter gabriel: red rain

11:23 am - erg uhg That's orcish for "Sleep has been repeatedly inturrupted by work."
Haven't posted in awhile. Update:
1. Got subpoenaed for attempted murder case (me no on trial, just as factual witness.) Didn't get called. Whew!
2. Am fed up with cats (again) as they destroyed my christmas decorations and broke my reindeer.
3. Have joined shiney gym. Went for fitness testing. discovered 2 things: a)strength is poor, cannot lift anything, b) constitution is good. was able to do 60 pushups. now arms hate me.
4. very tired of work. have to give lecture today and am getting grief from attending who doesn't want me to leave to go do lecture.
5. was late for call on account of call schedule switching without me being aware. had to cancel nice date.
6. have almost beat gauntlet! beat baldur's gate on extreme level with only minor cheating assistance...
7. am not ready for christmas.
8. Walmart is a scary place.

02:25 pm - WOW!!!! Ok, so our attending Kraemer says to us, "hey, we all ought to go white water rafting! it'll be fun!" Except since Kraemer mumbles, it sounded more like, "hwheogo whwa raftlle fun!" He recommends the river and the outfitter... and the wet suits, and off we go!
Now, he neglected to mention a few things. Or if he did, it came out sounding like "Nopml ftsewho noftfor whisamet."
First, the river he picked was the upper Gauley River in West Virginia, home to the 2001 World Rafting championships. He specified a particular time to raft, becuase the government had just release an insane amount of water from the dam, rasing the river level from 900 to 2800 CF.
Second, said upper Gauley river is also home to a number of fatalities, called "D's" by our guides, such that they actaully had to rename a few of the rapids. ie. 'Guide's Revenge' after D-ing someone, was kindly renamed 'Fuzzy Box of Kittens.' Cute. In point of fact, the last body removal was the day before we came.
Thirdly, very few of us had ever rafted before. His response at the time was "henoproblm. Itle fine."
So, we show up, get the morning talk and start looking at each other sideways. The lead guide starts out by saying, "now, everyone here has rafted before, right?" shaking heads. "hmmn. Ok, well, some liken the Upper Gauley river to losing your virginity to a supermodel. good luck!" more glaring at Kraemer ensues.
Our guide is kind enough to temper the "Swift and Brutal" recommendation by the camera man to "Swift, brutal and safe." She is also kind enough to help us out by stating the precentage chance of flipping on any given rapid or series of rapids, which way to swim if we fall out, and which rocks have large undercuts and should at all costs be avoided as they would suck us in and never let us out. She warned us ahead of time when we were approaching class V rapids, like the 14 ft waterfall!
Don't get me wrong, it was awesome! We surfed a few of the hydraulics, which were neat, because the raft flips up on it's side, then flips around the other way. We did not chose to surf the Hungry Mother, as our guide quoted us a 75% flip chance.
We only lost 2 people. Ahem, they fell out of the raft, not D'd! We didn't flip! By the last rapid, above mentioned Fuzzy Box of Kittens, our guide Leah asked us if we wanted to play it safe or enter at the angle of destruction to attempt to flip. We tried, but failed to flip. sigh.
Now, looking back on the pictures and the video, I can't believe I actually did it! Every picture has me looking straight down into a whirling vortex of terror with a giant grin on my face. Looking at what happened to other rafts, I think we lucked out on having a good and safe guide!
Go me!!!!
I can't wait to go back. Anyone want to come? Current Location: work Current Mood: ecstatic Current Music: fetal heart beats

09:29 am - doo be doo be doo I am such a geek. I went out the other day and finally decided to use my birthday gift cards to EB Games, extra special thanks to Krisdae and her family! I got the new Zelda, the original trilogy Star Wars Lego and... Baldur's Gate: dark Alliance. Now, Gryphonquill and I hacked our way through Dark Alliance 2 a few years back (wow, time flies...) and I wasn't sure if this would be the same game or not, but remembering how much fun it was to squash bugbears, I decided I really, really wanted to get it anyway.
ooooh boy am I having fun! The only slightly disappointing thing so far is that I haven't been able to use my gems to make shiny magic weapons like I did with the other game. oh well.

02:21 pm - very very interesting...but stupid! ;)
Your Score: INFJ - the counselorYou scored 36% I to E, 26% N to S, 4% F to T, and 31% J to P!Your type is best summed up by the word "counselor", which belongs to the larger group of idealists. Only 2% of the population share your type. You are so empathic that you often know what others need before they know themselves. You are a complex person who can deal with complicated issues and people, almost prefer to, as you love problem solving. You can be something of an idealist or perfectionist, and should try to take yourself a little less seriously. You are a supportive and insightful romantic partner, encouraging your mate to have dreams and work hard to make those dreams come true. Because you are so creative, you have a wealth of ideas to help them toward those goals. You need harmony so much that you are driven to resolve conflict quickly, as long as the terms don't violate your ethics. You feel the most appreciated when your partner admires your creativity, trusts your inspirations, and respects your values. It is also vitally important that your partner be open and emotionally available - in other words, that they be willing to share themselves completely. Your Score: Mystic Theurge37% Combativeness, 36% Sneakiness, 82% Intellect, 69% SpiritualityBrilliant and spiritual! You are a Mystic Theurge! Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken after you?ve fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that you?re an exceptionally talented person, but it probably doesn't. The Mystic Theurge is a combination of a cleric and a mage. They can cast both arcane and divine spells, and are good at both, making them pretty terrifying on the battlefield. They have more raw spellpower than just about any other class. You're both intelligent and faithful, but not violent or deceitful. I guess that makes you a pretty good person. 04:17 pm - tick tick tick That's my biological clock. The downside of working in infertility is that I keep getting to listen in on the "Now, your fertility begins to decline around age 30..." several times a day. Yikes! The gray hair, the sore back, the declining store of eggs... sigh. I guess I can't blame it all on my job, but it sure doesn't help my social life to work 80 hrs a week.
I think I'll blame it on the orcs. They have this fantastic BO which keeps all prospective men away from my house. yes! That's it. It's all the orcs fault! If they didn't shower in toxic ooze and put up "Keap Owt: Ork B Heer" signs everywhere, maybe people would want to come visit...
I loved Harry Potter! It's been a few years since I read the book, so maybe I'm forgetting a bunch of stuff, but it did hit the high points and seemed to flow pretty well. I liked how they built up Sirius and Harry's relationship. Very nice. I think they did a good job considering how long the book was. 03:24 pm - mechaburst That's my transformer name according to the cartoon network!
Very Secret Orc Update #5,327 Orcs attempting birdwatching. Birds attempting out-of-season mass migration. Erin experimenting with better earplugs and attempting sleep. Cats attempting vicarious birdwatching and experimenting with better feather-plucking techniques. Garden doing well with no complaints.
I'm going to harry potter this sat night in greenville if anyone's bored. You know, I kindof like transformers. Admittedly, it had huge gaping plot holes and it irritated me in parts, but overall, I found myself anticipating certain moments. I really enjoyed that Cullen did the voice of optimus- it was just like it used to be and I appreciated that. The setup for some scenes made me very nostalgic and had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I didn't care for the city destruction, planes through buildings, etc- I thought that was poorly thought-out and wasn't really what I wanted from the movie. Didn't care for the whole military thing. It was a bit preachy for a movie based on a cartoon. It was also hilarious, with excellent special effects. Obviously not very beleivable and some dialog very silly. Felt they could have had a better story. Really loved the transformations. Very cool. Happy to have seen it. Nice setup for sequel. Who is this Bay person, anyway? 10:57 am - curses to ADHD! oh wait, was that a hawk?
So I went to the library with mom this weekend and picked up a bunch of books I've been wanting to read. I promptly started reading 3 of them. Not at once, don't fret.
But I'll read a few chapters then decide I want to see what's happening in the other.
I think that was a peregrine.
And for the last 2 days I wake up with a headache because I stay up late mesmerized. Now I'm frustrated because I'm at work, and I only wanted to bring 1 book, and now I really want to read a different one!
On the bright side the Orcs have taken up a new hobby which, praise ADHD, keeps them OUT of the house. I swear, their attention span is even shorter than mine.
That darn falcon ate my tufted titmouse!
No, Grag! Don't throw rocks at the birds!

01:32 pm - Mariposa The name of my kitten. cute, eh?
So... I didn't do anything for my birthday so nobody feel left out! I'm coming into town this weekend and I think I might go to festival of the Eno on Sunday if anyone wants to come.
I've lost all social skills. I need to make a graph: rising slope of surgical skills as compared to falling slope of ability to remember to call people and answer my telephone and check my mailbox...
sigh.
On the bright side the Ocrs have promised to plant the plants I got for my birthday today. Supposedly when I get home there will be a nicely turned and prepared flower bed. I'm not sure what the sacks of treasure are really for, but Grog tells me shiny things make good fertilizer. I told him to find a nice cave, since chances are they'll dig the sacks back up when Slar, the Orc representative at the World Champisonship Poker Tournament, needs backup funds. Then where will my poor garden be? Not only that, but I think I might be "gardening" Orc mob earnings in my backyard. Do they prosecute for "gardening?" Hmmn. I wonder if I have mineral rights... 04:22 pm - Random Random was attacked yesterday by a dog and died. I've never buried a pet literally myself before. It was weird digging a hole and putting dirt on her. I buried her with her favorite toy and a bit of Squeaker's Hair to keep her company. My neighbor left a note to let me know- I thought she'd been hit by a car- she was so broken but no bite or teeth-type marks. The only thing that really really hurts is that she suffered. I came home and she was waiting under the bush and trusting me to make it better and I didn't make her better. She just choked on her own blood and died. I hated to have let her down. I miss her so much. I hope she at least knew someone was there for her. Does anyone have a suggestion for a plant to plant over her? She's next to the rosebush, but I want her to have a special plant. Poor poor baby. Squeaker knows- I let him come a sniff her so he would call for her. 10:49 am - Champagne Room Acutally, this post is about the "Sperm Aquisition Room"
I'm on REI this month, which is reproductive endocrinology, i.e. infertility. The patients are very different from what I'm used to -they actually come to their appointments and take their medicine. And they're rabid about having babies! So, naturally some of them need help, which means sometimes we need sperm. Hence the creation of the sperm acquisition room. Apparently a courier came to drop something by the other week and called back after having needed to use the "restroom" and was very upset about the magazines in the "restroom." Hee hee! 08:06 am - huh. This is a good month, btw! I've asked the Orcs to help me set up a rock garden in my backyard, so they've spent all week digging and hauling. I now have a mountain of boulders to choose from. Sadly, they were so enthusiastic I can't open my back door anymore as it is wedged in by rock. Oh well. I pointed and nodded through the glass yesterday, and Grunc threw the offending cliff segment out into the main road narrowly missing Random my cat as she wandered back to the house. I've never seen her leap so high, and come to think of it, I haven't seen her since. Hmmn. Perhaps she has gone to Abu Dhabi?
I went to see 300. It was shiny eye candy: fluffy but pretty. I had no idea there was so much controversy around it. Oh well. Being a leftish, socialist person, it's not going to make me suddenly want to go out and conquer, but it does make me want to throw some dice and squash some Bugbears. Is that the same thing? (deep philosophical question of the day) It's a movie made for gamers, be they video or tabletop. Reminded me of the 13th warrior. Anyway, I can't take it seriously.
It's almost friday and I have the weekend off!
You know, I had a Harry Potter Dream last night after watching the movie. Hmmn. I think I had the whole Horcrux thing figured out then BEEP- the alarm goes off. Sigh.
What's frustrating is that I got up early to get to a case, which was cancelled, so now I don't have to be in the OR until 1 pm. Grrrr. Current Location: work Current Mood: excited
